I sent out a tweet today :-
Hello Lydia! Read your article Fight Club in Life today. Good one. However, did you realize that the style of Wing Chun you wrote about in your article is not the same type of Wing Chun as that practiced by Ip Man or his descendants? Mushin, author The Ip Man Question
It was addressed to Lydia Vasko (you can find her on Twitter) who wrote an article today in Life on a beginner trying out various martial arts after being inspired by the movie The Grandmasters.
My impression on reading what she wrote about Wing Chun is that she is confusing the Wing Chun she was trying out as that to be the same as the style of Ip Man Wing Chun. From what she wrote it seems that she was trying out the Cho Gar Wing Chun of Ku Choy Wah.
I can’t blame her for being confused. Unless she knows that there are various types of Wing Chun out there I can understand why she would not know the difference between Cho Gar Wing Chun and Ip Man Wing Chun.
