I don’t know who originally uploaded this video but I would like to say a big THANK YOU to him or her.
I have written about this before but with the new additional evidence its worth revisiting.
Basically, when our late GM Wei Shuren first came out with the book on the Yang Jianhou Taiji system there was a shock in GM Wang’s eldest disciple’s camp because they had never heard of such a system. Then began the denials and even accusations that GM Wei had taken a secret scroll which is sheer nonsense of course.
Then later a clip of GM Wang Yongquan was released showing him playing the Yang Chengfu style form which bolstered the argument of the anti-GM Wei camp somewhat. They also released a book on their version of the Old Six Routines form which looked like a variation of Yang Chengfu’s form. There was nothing outstanding about it unlike the version in GM Wei’s book.
It is interesting to note that we heard that in his early teaching career GM Wang did teach the Yang Chengfu form and the version that we call the Old Six Routines was only taught late in GM Wang’s career after he decided to break his vow of secrecy to the Yang family.
For a while it was basically a us versus them argument. Then one day a short 5 minutes clip showing a very old GM Wang sitting in a chair in a public park doing fajing demo was released. Whilst it was not earth shaking revelation nonetheless I could not help but note that GM Wei was in the clip and more importantly GM Wang was doing the fajing using the signature elongated wrist principle mentioned in GM Wei’s book but not in the other camp’s book.
Then last night I came across the full length version of the 5 minute clip and I think this clip undeniably shows that the Old Six Routines form that GM Wei wrote about is the real thing and not something he made up.
The beginning of this 35 minute clip shows a very frail GM Wang being helped off a tricycle and onto a chair. He was so weak that he could not walk properly and had to shuffle his feet whilst being helped by his students.
From what I can see it seems that the purpose of the demo was for GM Wang to go through a number of principles and their relation to fajing. GM Wei was holding the list and going through it. I can see that throughout the entire demo the elongated wrist principle was present.
At one point GM Wang tried to do fajing whilst standing up but he was so frail that they urged him to sit down again.
The beauty of this clip is that I can hear what was being said and I can hear GM Wei asking GM Wang to clarify the use of various principles in fajing. I can hear GM Wei asking about the use of the 3 bows in Bend Bow to Shoot Tiger, the use of 3 Passes, the use of spiral force, the difference between the fundamental jings, etc; basically what is written about in GM Wei’s books can be seen in this clip.
So take a look for yourself and know that the other camp’s allegation about GM Wei is complete fabrication, possibly born out of the need to cover up their ignorance and the fact that they did not get the true Yang style that GM Wang and his father got from Master Yang Jianhou.
The evidence speaks for itself…………..
