What we learn in Taiji can be applied to everyday life. Your mastery of the skills should shape the everyday things that you do.
When I saw my student eating prata I said that he did not apply his learning to eating prata. It sounds like a laughing matter until I pointed out the parallels to him.
How to eat prata using a fork and spoon – use the fork and spoon to hold the prata down to tear a piece off. Then use the fork to push the prata to the spoon and bring to mouth.
Principle 1 – Rooting
Understanding Taiji should be brought across to applying the skill of rooting the fork so that the prata can be pinned down to the plate.
Principle 2 – Fulcrum
Then the spoon should be held against the fork to create a fulcrum from which we can apply leverage to tear a piece of prata off.
Principle 3 – Herding & Trapping
Finally, we should apply the principle of herding the piece of prata to the spoon so that it cannot escape being placed on the spoon. Then to the mouth and eat.
