We were having prata again and I could not help but notice my student putting his hands in a certain manner.
So I asked him to tear the prata with his fork and spoon whilst I put pressure on his fork hand and he had to struggle but still got his hand pushed back.
As a Taiji practitioner we should always practice awareness not just during practice of the form or push hands but in everyday life. The thing we do seem unimportant and small but it does not mean we should not do it with full awareness.
Awareness in this case means how we sit, how we position our hands, how we tear the prata, how we scoop the sauce, how we place the prata on the spoon and bring it to our mouth. Call it the Zen of Eating Prata if you must but this is it.
I ended by asking him to put pressure on my fork hand and see what it feels like as I move the fork about to eat whilst he kept the pressure on to try to push my hand back. The only thing I didn’t mention to him is that only the tip of my right toe was in contact with the floor so I was not even like sitting in a stance-like manner but was just connection to ground with awareness.
