The next eBook TaijiKinesis Vol 3 will cover the fundamentals of push hands. I had intended the third volume to be on playing the push hands game.
However, I had observed that students are still shaky in their Taiji basics especially those parts that are frequently used in push hands. So a volume on push hands basics would be a better choice than one on push hands game.
The filming of the videos to go along with the eBook provided an opportunity to go over the fundamentals with my student and I can see that he has still not quite gotten it exactly as it should be.
Earlier in the day during our lesson time I corrected his transition movement in Fair Lady Threads Shuttles particularly the precise placement of the feet to facilitate the quick change of direction for usage of this technique. The correct positioning of the feet is also required for power generation.
Another correction was to a movement that didn’t seem important but as I pointed out every movement has its place so none should be overlooked. This movement didn’t seem attractive nor useful but learned well its a test of one’s skill in using refined body motion to issue power.
So its fitting that TaijiKinesis Vol 3 should cover the key basics of push hands especially how to handle pressure from a strong and resisting opponent. Ironically, these requirements are already covered in the practice of the form in Vol 2. I won’t even mention that even before Vol 2 the very first volume in the series had already introduced the essential pointers to those who bothered to read indepth and actually tried to find a way to implement those principles.
